MacPac for Legal < Back to Products

MacPac is The Sackett Group’s (TSG) flagship document template and macro product. Thanks to feedback from our valued clients in law offices and legal departments worldwide, MacPac for Legal has been refined over the years to offer outstanding efficiency and control in the creation and revision of legal documents—while retaining its familiar dialog box interface. Because of MacPac’s widespread use, many new hires and temporary workers already know MacPac for Legal, and require little training to produce complex legal documents

MacPac is available as a complete system or as an à la carte selection of macros and templates.

User Interface (UI)

MacPac operates within the familiar MS Word environment and provides easy-to-use dialog boxes and ribbon options to create documents such as letters and pleadings, or to use macros to insert letterhead or a document ID. Based upon the document open on the screen, ribbon options change to provide functions specific to each MacPac template.

Customization

Little or no programming knowledge is required to customize MacPac templates. Administrators can accomplish 85% of typical customization requests without code. For automation of additional templates, including fill-in forms, we provide our client partners with the Template Architect, a development tool that facilitates codeless design and creation of sophisticated MacPac-like templates.

Customization and Configuration Deployment

All product customizations and configurations are stored locally in a Microsoft Jet database, MS Word boilerplate documents, and a few configuration files. Customizations can be distributed to user workstations using simple file copying procedures.

Author Preferences (Default Settings)

MacPac correspondence templates include author preference options (letterhead, signature blocks, etc.). Users can copy author preferences from one document and use them to create other documents for the same author.

Reusability

MacPac’s “Reuse” feature generates new, first generation documents from variable information (recipients, subject line, party names) previously input via the MacPac user interface. “Reuse” automatically applies the most up-to-date letterhead, document formats, styles, and court rules to the new document.

Document Assembly

MacPac was not designed to provide robust document assembly with complex logic, but it does offer basic document assembly-like functionality for some templates. Users can insert boilerplate text automatically or manually into documents, and the user can be prompted to insert variable information.

Numbering Tool: Paragraph Numbering and Tables of Contents (TOC)

The Numbering Tool is one of our most popular MacPac À La Carte products. It provides a simpler, more intuitive interface than MS Word's paragraph numbering interface, and avoids native Word's numbering issues and limitations.

The Numbering Tool comes with a set of public numbering schemes (styles), which are accessible via a ribbon or shortcuts. Users can insert and edit public schemes in a document, save private schemes, and share schemes with other users.

Users can create and regenerate a table of contents (TOC) without manually marking text. Attributes can be applied automatically to run-in headings, and multiple numbering schemes can be applied in the same document. All scheme levels can be changed with one click; a dialog box and dynamic preview screen enable users to make more extensive changes and/or edit particular scheme levels.

Administrators can create, edit, delete, and manage public numbering schemes in-house.

Contact Integration

MacPac provides seamless integration with email and/or contact relationship managers (CRM) and author lists.

Trailer/Document ID

MacPac automates the insertion of a document number or filename into a MS Word document. The Trailer/Doc ID integrates with most document managers and MS Windows.

For organizations that don’t need the full functionality of MacPac, any template or macro in the program can be purchased separately.

The most popular À La Carte components of MacPac for Legal include:

  • The Numbering Tool (automatic paragraph numbering and tables of contents)
  • Trailer/Doc ID macro (stamps a document with the document ID or filename)
  • Letter (includes electronic letterhead, letter signature blocks, and other macro functions)
  • Pleading (includes pleading paper, table of authorities, discovery questions and responses, pleading signature blocks, etc. for 60 U.S. courts in 17 states plus the UK)
  • Agreement (includes title page, exhibits/schedules, signature blocks, etc.)
